DHAKA, May 27, 2025 (BSS) – The 4th Bangladesh Short and Documentary Film Festival begins at eight divisional cities in the country today.
Under the management of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy and the Department of Drama and Film, the five-day film festival will continue till May 31. Filmmaker Anam Biswas inaugurated the event.
Cultural Adviser Mostafa Sarwar Faruqui will attend the concluding day as the chief guest.
Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy secretary and acting Director General (DG) Mohammad Wares Hossain will chair the inaugural and the concluding session.
A total of 300 short-films were submitted from across the country and 89 films were selected for display.
In a press conference on May 24, the acting DG of the Shilpakala Academy said “the Shilpakala Academy arranged a total of three short and documentary film festival in 2016, 2018 and 2021.”
The main target and objective of the festival is to create inner significance of the film and also humanitarian and social value among all concerned through the festival and also to disseminate, promoting, projection and understanding of quality short and documentary films.
Of the submitted online films, 209 are fictions and 91 are documentaries. The jury committee finally will select the best film, best film maker and special jury in both the categories from the displayed films.
Even four special rewards will be fixed overall under both the categories which are - best photographer, Best editing, best sound planning and best production planning.
The financial value for the best film is Taka 1.50 lakh, best film maker is Taka one lakh, special jury Taka 50,000 have been fixed.
Apart from this, each Taka 30,000 has been fixed for best photographer, best editing, best sound planning and best production planning. All the film makers will get festival plaque including display certificate for their displayed film.
