JHENAIDAH, May 27, 2025 (BSS) - Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter today said the rights of fishermen to baors (water bodies) will be restored.

"The government is working to protect the rights of genuine fishermen. Efforts are underway to implement the 'Jal Jar, Jola Tar' policy. I will speak with all relevant government departments, including the Ministry of Land, to restore the fishermen's rights to the water bodies," the adviser told a view-exchange meeting with fishermen at Kotchandpur in the district.

Farida said, "Everyone's cooperation is needed to return the real ownership of the baor to the residents of Baorpar to alleviate their suffering. All quarters, including political and social, must work together in this regard."

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Abdul Awal and Zilla Khet Majur Samity President Fazlur Rahman, among others, were present at the event.

Other speakers at the event said the natural breeding and production of native fish species in the baor were destroyed due to the exclusion of real fishermen and the leasing of natural water bodies to influential people during the previous fascist regime.

"Due to the use of artificial food and chemical ingredients for commercial production in the baor, the water bodies have lost their natural form, they added.

They expressed hope that these problems will be solved through awareness and collective efforts.

Earlier, the adviser visited the Boluhar Baor.
