SHERPUR, May 26, 2025 (BSS) - News published in some media outlets claiming that the convoy of the Environment, Forest and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan was attacked in Sherpur is not true.
“This news is misleading and not based on facts,” said a statement issued by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
The fact is that Syeda Rizwana Hasan visited the Daodhara Garo Pahar Tourism Centre in Nalitabari, Sherpur today as part of a pre-scheduled programme.
After the visit, she spoke to journalists and later left for the long-term plantation area under the Madhutila range, the statement read.
Later, Rizwana held a public meeting in Madhutila. There, she distributed compensation to the families of those injured and killed in elephant attacks and exchanged views with locals on the elephant-human conflicts and conservation of natural forests, which was completely peaceful and cordial.
No untoward incident occurred at any of these events. However, it was later learned that an altercation took place between some journalists and a person at one location, which was not related to the adviser’s visit, according to the statement.
