KHULNA, May 23, 2025 (BSS) - Khulna University Vice Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr. Md. Rezaul Karim here today said that the poems, songs, and literature of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam remain relevant across generations.
“Youths were at the heart of his creative works. The 2024 mass uprising drew significant inspiration from Nazrul’s rebellious poems and songs, particularly among the youth and young activists,” he said while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion on the occasion of the 126th birth anniversary of the National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, “Nazrul Festival 2025,” held at KU cafeteria courtyard.
KU treasurer Professor Dr. Md. Nurunnabi, Ekushey Padak-winning elocutionist Bhaswar Bandyopadhyay, and Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education & ICT) of Khulna Nurul Hai Mohammad Anas, addressed as special guests while Prominent Nazrul Sangeet artist Pradeep Mahanto and renowned educationist Bhargava Bandyopadhyay addressed as guest speakers.
Professor Dr. Md. Dulal Hossain, Head of the Bangla Discipline, delivered an insightful speech on Nazrul’s literature and music as the keynote speaker.
Professor Dr. Md. Nazmus Sadat, Director of Student Affairs and Member Secretary of the Nazrul Festival 2025 Organizing Committee presided over the event while. Professor Dr. Mahmud Alam, Head of the History and Civilization Discipline delivered the welcome speech.
The speakers emphasized that from the anti-British movement to the present day, Kazi Nazrul Islam has remained an eternal source of inspiration for all generations. His creative poetry and music have awakened and emboldened the youth time and again, they said, adding that Nazrul believed that if young people could harness their inner strength, they could bring about positive societal change.
The speakers expressed the hope that Nazrul's ideals, dreams, and values would continue to illuminate the society of the future.
The discussion session was followed by a cultural programme, where university students and guest artists performed songs, recitations, and dances.
