DHAKA, May 22, 2025 (BSS) –In light of the changing socio-educational landscape, Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), Professor Dr S M A Faiz, today urged the universities across the country to take proactive measures to address the needs and aspirations of the new generation.
Speaking as the chief guest at the 31st foundation training certificate distribution ceremony for university teachers, held at the UGC Auditorium, Professor Faiz emphasized that the university teachers should play a pivotal role in shaping the skilled and future youth folk.
"University teachers must act as mentors who are not only knowledgeable but also more humane," said Professor Faiz.
He expressed concern over the growing distance between students and teachers in many institutions and stressed the need for bridging this gap through greater engagement and empathy.
UGC Members Professor Dr Mohammad Tanzim Uddin Khan and Professor Dr Machuma Habib, as well as Bangladesh Agricultural University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr A K Fazlul Haque Bhuiyan also spoke as special guests at the event.
UGC Secretary Dr Md Fakhrul Islam presided over the ceremony, while Dr Bentul Mawa, Director of the Graduate Training Institute (GTI) at Bangladesh Agricultural University delivered the welcome address.
A total of 25 newly appointed teachers from 13 public universities across the country participated in the training programme, aimed at enhancing pedagogical skills and professional development.
