DHAKA, May 22, 2025 (BSS) – Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) today said the people in the capital, its adjacent areas and the coastal belts have been experiencing rainfall due to the influence of western low pressure.
Talking to BSS, Meteorologist AKM Nazmul Huq said Bangladesh has been experiencing incessant railfall as a result of low pressure formed in the Indian State of Bihar and West Bengal due to hot weather there.
“The western low pressure has been entering into Bangladesh through the northern areas and that’s why the rainfall is taking place,” he added,
According to the Met office, a total of 20mm rainfall has been recorded on Thursday in the capital in the last six hours since 6:00 am to 12:00 pm.
Even the clouds on the sky of the capital city also has moved to Narayanganj and Narshingdi and it will likely to create rainfall there.
The today’s rainfall is now being confined in the capital and its surrounding areas due to concentration of clouds at the Jajira point.
Due to the influence of the low pressure, different coastal zones including Noakhali, Patuakhali, Barishal, Bhola, Bargun, Feni and northern Ctattogram have been experiencing the rainfall. But, no railfall is recorded in Cox’s Bazar so far.
Replying to a query, Meteorogist Nazmul Huq said the rainfall would continue till the effect of the low pressure.
According to a Met office bulletin, the Southwestly monsoon has advanced up to Akyab coast of Myanmar and conditions are favourable for further advancement.
Low pressure may form over the South Bay by May 26, it said. A trough of low lies over West Bengal to North Bay across Southwestern part of Bangladesh.
Heavy and very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at costal belt, western and southern region till May 25-26, it added.
