DHAKA, May 15, 2025 (BSS) –The government is taking significant steps to eliminate digital inequality by expanding internet and device access, especially for women and rural populations, said Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser overseeing the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology.
 
Speaking at a press conference held at the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) bhaban in Agargaon here on the occasion of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, he said the ongoing efforts are to ensure that citizens can directly access to  government services through their mobile phones.
           
“Goal 10 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) emphasizes reducing inequality — a vision that aligns perfectly with the theme of this year’s World Telecommunication and Information Society Day,” he stated.
 
He said women’s participation in digital governance, access to digital platforms and access to digital services remains low.

In many areas, they continue to lag behind, he said, adding that the government is actively working to bridge this gap and empower women through greater digital inclusion.
 
Calling on the media to support these initiatives, Faiz stressed the importance of collaborative efforts to raise awareness for marginalized groups and bring this groups into the digital fold.
