DHAKA, May 14, 2025(BSS) - Russian Ambassador to Bangladesh, Alexander Khozin, met with Food Adviser Ali Imam Majumder today at the Bangladesh Secretariat and discussed issues related to food safety and importing wheat from Russia.
During the meeting, the food adviser highlighted the strong trade relations between Bangladesh and Russia, noting that the country imports a significant portion of its food and fertilizer from Russia.
"Bangladesh requires approximately 70 lakh metric tons of wheat annually, but we produce only 10 lakh metric tons," the adviser said. "To meet the shortfall, we import nearly 60 lakh metric tons of wheat from abroad each year."
He further emphasized the importance of Russia as an economic partner, citing the multifaceted relationship between the two nations. Majumder expressed hope in deepening cooperation in economic development, education, science and technology.
Counselor of the Russian Embassy in Dhaka, Vladimir Michelob, along with senior officials from the embassy, Food Secretary Md Masudul Hassan and senior officials of the Ministry of Food, were also present at the meeting.
