DHAKA, May 10, 2025 (BSS) – Local Government Division (LGD) Secretary Md Rezaul Maksud Jahedi today said that the city would remain neat and clean if each citizen becomes aware.
He said this while speaking at the 4th especial cleanliness drive in Lalbagh area under Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).
Some 500 anti-mosquito and cleaning workers joined the drive alongside local leaders and inhabitants in presence of DSCC Administrator Md Shahjahan Miah.
Talking to media during the drive, Md Rezaul Maksud Jahedi said that it is their goal to present a beautiful Dhaka before the city dwellers through eliminating all sorts of harassments of the citizens and preventing the dengue menace.
In this connection, he said that the DSCC has been conducting especial cleanliness drives on a regular basis alongside the anti-mosquito drives and thus disseminating messages to aware people.
Besides, Jahedi said that there are many historical structures in Lalbagh which would be transformed into tourist destinations to attract foreign tourists adding that a sewerage treatment plant would also be set up in the capital.
DSCC Administrator Md Shahjahan Mia said that the birthplace of Dhaka is Old Dhaka while it has its unique history and culture.
In this regard, he said that they are putting emphasis on cleanliness drive to project the previous tradition and beauty of the capital in a bid to turn it as a new tourist spot.
Shahjahan said that they have already started drives to check the Dengue menace in the upcoming Dengue season through associating the citizens in the drive.
Side by side, he informed that tree plantation programme would be implemented in the upcoming rainy season to make Dhaka as a beautiful and green city.
As part of the cleanliness drive, the attendees and guests at the drive attended a public awareness rally.
DSCC CEO Dr Zillur Rahman, all departmental chiefs and local leaders were present on the occasion, among others.
