DHAKA, May 5, 2025 (BSS) – British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Sarah Cooke today paid a courtesy call on Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Affairs Adviser Supradip Chakma at his Secretariat office here.
Various issues including implementation of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Peace Accord, strengthening the security system in the CHT and developing the education system were discussed, said a press release.
Adviser Supradip hoped the British government will always be by his side and will be proactive in the development of Bangladesh.
Supradip said the interim government is making its strides to ensure peace, harmony, development and progress in CHT region.
“The population of the Chittagong Hill Tracts region has increased but we cannot fully integrate with the mainstream yet. Our government is giving more importance to this issue and is working towards that goal,” he said.
He said the government put highest importance on ensuring security in hills so that the free movement of people in the region continues.
This year, in mid-April, several ambassadors of various missions stationed in Bangladesh visited the Chittagong Hill Tracts and enjoyed the immense beauty of the region, he said.
The adviser said the government put importance on ensuring safety of foreign citizens as it keeps a close watch on the movement of foreign citizens every year.
Senior officials of the ministry were present.
