Govt steps bringing normalcy in Majhipara village: Enamur

RANGPUR, Oct 23, 2021 (BSS) – State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Dr Md Enamur Rahman today said normalcy is returning to Kasba Majhipara village in Pirganj upazila following massive steps taken by the government.
 
He was addressing a press conference at Boterhat RDS Dakhil Madrasha ground in the village on the government’s rehabilitation activities to assist the affected Hindu community families.
 
The State Minister read out a written statement in the press conference narrating the incident and ongoing massive relief and rehabilitation activities being conducted by the government and other organisations.
 
He said 18 houses were burnt and three temples affected in the arson attacks in Majhipara village on October 17.
 
Later, the State Minister discussed the massive relief and rehabilitation activities, construction, repairing and reconstruction of the damaged and burnt houses in the arson attack-affected village.

“Soon after the incident on October 17, the government distributed 100 sarees, 200 lungis, 100 blankets and 200 packets of dry food packets among the affected families on 18 October,” he said.

October 19, Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury MP and Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud MP visited the affected areas and distributed 100 bundles of corrugated iron sheets and Taka three lakh in cash.
 
They also distributed Taka 6,60,000 received from the Department of Social Services and Ministry of Disaster management and Relief among 66 families with Taka 10,000 each and fishing nets among 15 fifteen fishermen for their livelihoods.
 
“On October 20, State Minister for Religious Affairs Md Faridul Haque Khan MP distributed Taka 10,000 among each of the 28 severely affected Hindu families and Taka 5,000 among 33 other affected families of the village,” Enamur said.
 
Besides, Faridul Haque Khan distributed 25 packets of cattle feed and 40 packets of baby food among the affected Hindu families.
 
Rangpur District Council distributed Taka 75,000 with Taka 3,000 to each of the 25 families, Bangladesh Red Crescent Society Taka 1.25 lakh with Taka 5,000 to each of the 25 families and Bidyananda Foundation distributed Taka 31 lakh to 26 families.
 
On October 21, State Minister for Disaster Relief Dr Enamur Rahman MP visited the affected village and distributed 66 packets of dry foods, 66 pieces of blankets, 66 pieces of saris and 66 pieces of lungi to the 66 affected families.
 
Besides, 31 severely affected Hindu families of Majhipara village received Taka 3.10 lakh with Taka 10,000 each donated by RDRS Bangladesh, an NGO, on the same day.
 
“We have already repaired and renovated some of the affected houses in the village under the overall supervision of the district administration,” Enamur said.
 
“So far, 166 sarees, 266 lungis, 166 blankets, 266 packets of dry foods, 25 packets of cow fodders, 40 packets of baby foods, 100 bundles of corrugated iron sheets, Taka 49.15 lakh have been distributed among the affected families of Kasba Majhipara village,” he added.
 
Secretary to the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief Md Mohsin, Deputy Commissioner Md Asib Ahsan, Superintendent of Police Biplob Kumar Sarker, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Biroda Rani Roy, Pirganj Upazila Awami League General Secretary and Municipal Mayor Tajimul Islam Shamim were present.
