One die of Covid-19, fatalities reach 1,240 in Rangpur

     RANGPUR, Oct 23, 2021 (BSS) - One more Covid-19 patient of Nilphamari

district died during the last 24 hours ending at 8 am today raising the
number of coronavirus fatalities to 1,240 in Rangpur division.

     "The new Covid-19 casualty was reported after 10 consecutive days since
October 12 last in the division," Divisional Deputy Director (Health) Dr Abu
Md Zakirul Islam told BSS today.

     The district-wise breakup of the 1,240 fatalities currently stands at
293 in Rangpur, 80 in Panchagarh, 89 in Nilphamari, 68 in Lalmonirhat, 69 in
Kurigram, 252 in Thakurgaon, 326 in Dinajpur and 63 in Gaibandha districts of
the division.

     The average casualty rate currently stands at 2.24 percent in the
division.

     Meanwhile, the number of Covid-19 cases reached 55,259 as 18 new
patients were diagnosed after testing 173 samples at the positivity rate of
10.40 percent on Friday in the division.

     The daily positivity rate, however, remained below the five percent mark
almost during the last one month in the division.

     Earlier, the daily Covid-19 positivity rates were 0.38 percent on
Thursday, 1.97 percent on Wednesday, 2.56 percent on Tuesday, 2.72 percent on
Monday, 2.42 percent on Sunday and 3.29 percent on Saturday last in the
division.

     "The district-wise break up of total 55,259 patients include 12,457 of
Rangpur, 3,800 Panchagarh, 4,438 of Nilphamari, 2,738 of Lalmonirhat, 4,636
of Kurigram, 7,604 of Thakurgaon, 14,728 of Dinajpur and 4,858 of Gaibandha
in the division," he added.

     Divisional Director (Health) Dr Md Motaharul Islam said a total of
2,90,706 collected samples were tested till Friday, and of them, 55,259 were
found Covid-19 positive with an average positivity rate of 19.01 percent in
the division.

     In the meantime, the total number of healed Covid-19 patients reached
52,910 with recovery of 17 more infected patients on Friday in the division
where the average recovery rate currently stands at 95.75 percent.

     The 52,910 recovered patients include 11,342 of Rangpur, 3,671
Panchagarh, 4,341 Nilphamari, 2,625 Lalmonirhat, 4,527 Kurigram, 7,268
Thakurgaon, 14,350 in Dinajpur and 4,786 Gaibandha districts in the division.

     Among the 55,259 patients, 48 are undergoing treatments at isolation
units, including 10 critical patients at ICU beds and six at High Dependency
Unit beds, after recovery of 52,910 patients and 1,240 deaths while 1,061 are
remaining now in home isolation.

     "Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the Covid-
19 vaccine rose to 45,30,371, and among them, 21,57,753 got the second dose
of the jab till Friday in the division," he said.

     Talking to BSS today, Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and
Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr
AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu said the Covid-19 situation continues improving
consistently in the last two months in Rangpur division.

     "However, everyone should remain aware and properly abide by the health
directives, wear masks and maintain physical distance to prevent further
spread of the deadly virus," he said.
