DHAKA, Oct 19, 2021 (BSS) - State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid has said Bangladesh adopted a plan by fully supporting the Renewable Energy expansion.

“Solar energy or solar power is more prospective sector in Bangladesh. Activities have also been going on to generate power from waste and wind,” he said this while a conference virtually.

National Energy Administration of China (NEA) organised the Second Belt and Road Energy Ministerial Conference on Speeding up Energy Transition with Cooperation in Technology Innovation last evening.

Former Secretary General of International Energy Forum (IEF) Sun Xiansheng moderated the conference, which was addressed by Energy Minister of Saudi Arabia Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman Al-Saud, Energy Minister of Congo Honoré Sayi, Petroleum Minister of Papua New Guinea Kerenga Kua and Secretary General of International Power forum Joseph McMonigle.

The state minister said that Bangladesh has been working to transform clean energy as a signatory of the Paris Agreement and the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

He said per capita carbon emission is at 0.4 metric ton in Bangladesh, which is 4.5 metric ton on average per capita in the world.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh government scraped 10 coal fired power plants having 8,451 MW generation capacity as part of the promise for a carbon neutral nation, Nasrul added.

“We have also completed mapping of wind power at nine sites and a research on offshore wind prospect will be carried out soon,” he added.
