Qcoom CEO remanded afresh

 DHAKA, Oct 13, 2021 (BSS) - A court here today placed e-commerce

platform Qcoom owner and chief executive officer (CEO) Ripon Miah on
one day remand in a fraud case filed with Tejgaon Industrial Police
Station.

  Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shohidul Islam passed the order as
police produced Ripon before the court and pleaded to place him on
five-day remand in the case.

  Earlier on October 4, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Asheq Imam
placed Ripon Miah on two-day remand in another case lodged under
Digital Security Act (DSA) for embezzling money through online
fraudulence.

   A customer of Qcoom filed the case and detective branch (DB) of
police arrested Ripon from Motijheel area on October 3.

  Ripon in the primary interrogation confessed of not delivering goods
of around Taka 250 crore in spite of taking the money in advance.

  Dhaka Metropolitan Police additional commissioner AKM Hafiz Akter at
a press briefing earlier on October 4 said because of the Covid
restrictions imposed by the government, people got attracted towards
online shopping and different e-commerce platforms like Qcoom used
this in their favor.

   "They declared different offers and discounts, alluring
unsuspecting customers to pay huge money in advance to get products at
comparatively low price," he said.
