Appeal challenging HC stay on BFUJ polls filed

DHAKA, Oct 6, 2021 (BSS) - An appeal challenging a High Court order that
stayed for two month the elections of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists
(BFUJ), was filed today with the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court.

BFUJ secretary general aspirant Dwip Azad filed the writ and it is likely
to be heard by the Chamber Judge Court of the Appellate Division on October
10, petitioner's lawyer Nure Alam Uzzal told newsmen.

The polls to elect the officer bearers of the BFUJ were scheduled to be
held on October 23. But the High Court on September 28 stayed the polls for
two months after holding hearing on a writ filed by former general secretary
of Chattogram Union of Journalists Mohammad Hasan Ferdous.

Ferdous had filed the writ, pleading for the court's direction to include
his name in the voter list and staying the polls.
