Bangladesh makes unique success in sports for sports-loving PM: Hasan

DHAKA, Sept 27, 2021 (BSS) – Information and Broadcasting Minister and Awami League Joint General Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud today said that Bangladesh has been able to attain extraordinary success in the field of sports because of the sports-loving Prime Minister.

He was addressing, as the chief guest, the closing ceremony of photo exhibition titled “Bangladesh: A Decade of Progress” and “Jayotu
Sheikh Hasina International Grand Master Chess Tournament” arranged by Canadian University of Bangladesh at a city hotel this evening.

State Minister for Youth and Sports Md Zahid Ahsan Russel addressed the function as the special guest with the university’s trustee board
chairman Dr Chowdhury Nafiz Sharafat in the chair, said a press release.

Lauding the arrangement of chess competition on the occasion of the birthday of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Dr Hasan said the country
has changed remarkably due to dynamic leadership of Bangabandhu’s daughter Sheikh Hasina.

“The people’s fortune has developed a lot in the last 12 and a half year. We have superseded India in terms of per capita income,” he
said.

Bangladeshi sportsmen are attaining victories competing with sportsmen of the renowned nations of the world, he said.

The Information Minister said in spite of being 92nd country in terms of arable land, how Bangladesh attained top positions in food grains,
fish and fruits production has become an astonishing incident to the world.

It has also become a topic of research to Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations (UN), he mentioned.

India-born international master Sangkalpa Gupta become unbeaten champion of the tournament while India-born international masters
Mitrbha Guha and Arnyak Ghosh, Sayantan Das and Bangladeshi grand master Ziaur Rahman attained second to fifth positions respectively in
the compeitition.

The minister and the state minister handed over prizes among the winners. They also visited the photo-exhibition.

Saif Powertec Limited Managing Director Tarafdar Md Ruhul Amin, Bangladesh Chess Federation Vice-President KM Shahidullah and
Federation’s General Secretary Syed Shahabuddin Shamim addressed the function, among others.
