25 lakh doses of Pfizer vaccine to arrive tomorrow

DHAKA, Sept 26, 2021 (BSS) - A total of 25 lakh doses of Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine will arrive at 10:15 pm tomorrow at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka from the USA under COVAX facilities.

The US Ambassador to Bangladesh Earl R Miller and Director General of Directorate General of Health Service (DGHS) Prof Dr Abul Bashar Mohammad Khurshid Alam are expected to receive the consignment of the vaccine at the airport, an official release said today.  

The first consignment of 100,620 doses of Covid-19 Pfizer vaccine under COVAX scheme arrived in Bangladesh at 11.22pm on May 31, this year.

On September 1, Bangladesh got 10 lakh vaccine out of 60 lakh and remaining 50 lakh doses of Pfizer vaccine will arrive in phases by this month.    

On May 27, the Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA) approved emergency use of Pfizer mRNA Covid-19 vaccine in the country.

Till today, Bangladesh has collected 4,94,29,940 doses of vaccines, the DGHS sources said.

Bangladesh has so far approved eight COVID-19 vaccines to control the deadly disease.  

The approved COVID-19 vaccines are from Moderna, Johnson & Johnson, CoronaVac, Pfizer, Covishield, Sputnik V, AstraZeneca and Sinopharm.
