Covid-19 deaths reach 1,224 in Rangpur division

    RANGPUR, Sept 25, 2021 (BSS) - The number of Covid-19 related deaths rose
to 1,230 as two more fatalities were recorded during the last 24 hours ending
at 8 am today in Rangpur division.  

    "The Covid-19 situation continues improving consistently during the last
seven consecutive weeks in the division," Focal Person of the Covid-19 and
Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr ZA Siddiqui told BSS
today.

    The two new casualties were reported from Kurigram and Thakurgaon
districts in the division.

    "The district-wise break up of the 1,230 fatalities stands at 291 in
Rangpur, 80 in Panchagarh, 87 in Nilphamari, 66 in Lalmonirhat, 68 in
Kurigram, 250 in Thakurgaon, 325 in Dinajpur and 63 in Gaibandha districts of
the division.

    The average casualty rate currently stands at 2.24 percent in the
division.

    Meanwhile, the number of Covid-19 cases rose to 54,818 as 21 new patients
were diagnosed after testing 377 samples of Rangpur division at the daily
positivity rate of 5.57 percent on Friday.  

    Earlier, the daily positivity rates were 5.08 percent on Thursday, 3.89
percent on Wednesday, 5.84 percent on Tuesday, 5.95 percent on Monday, 7.06
percent on Sunday and 5.14 percent on Saturday last in the division.  

    "The district-wise break up of total 54,818 patients include 12,377 of
Rangpur, 3,742 Panchagarh, 4,405 of Nilphamari, 2,728 of Lalmonirhat, 4,624
of Kurigram, 7,498 of Thakurgaon, 14,603 of Dinajpur and 4,841 of Gaibandha
in the division," he added.

    Divisional Director (Health) Dr Md Motaharul Islam today told BSS that a
total of 2,77,543 collected samples were tested till Friday, and of them,
54,818 were found Covid-19 positive with an average positivity rate of 19.75
percent in the division.

    In the meantime, the total number of healed Covid-19 patients reached
51,487 with recovery of 15 more infected patients on Friday in the division
where the average recovery rate currently stands at 93.92 percent.

    The 51,487 recovered patients include 10,684 of Rangpur, 3,446
Panchagarh, 4,292 Nilphamari, 2,601 Lalmonirhat, 4,486 Kurigram, 6,955
Thakurgaon, 14,253 in Dinajpur and 4,770 Gaibandha districts in the division.

    Among the 54,818 patients, 79 are undergoing treatments at isolation
units, including six critical patients at ICU beds and three at High
Dependency Unit beds, after recovery of 51,487 patients and 1,230 deaths
while 2,022 are remaining now in home isolation.

    "Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the Covid-19
vaccine rose to 27,25,394, and among them, 15,96,927 got the second dose of
the jab till Friday in the division," Dr Islam added.  

    Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and
Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu urged
people to remain more alert and abide by the health directives despite the
pandemic situation continuing to improve.
