DHAKA, April 30, 2024 (BSS) - Convener of the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Accord Implementation and Monitoring Committee Abul Hasanat Abdullah, MP (minister status), today said conflicts that affected peace in hill tract region for several decades ended with the signing of the peace accord in 1997 because of the farsighted leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

"Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been working to establish peace in Chittagong Hill Tracts area. As a result, it has been possible to include the ethnic minority groups of the CHT in the mainstream of the country's development programmes," he said while speaking at the 9th meeting of Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Accord Implementation and Monitoring Committee at Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.

Committee convener Abul Hasanat Abdullah presided over the meeting while members of the committee Parbatya Chattogram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS) president Jyotirindra Bodhipriya Larma and Sudatta Chakma attended the meeting.
 
State Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Kujendra Lal Tripura, Land Secretary Md Khalilur Rahman, Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Ministry's Additional Secretary Prodip Kumar Mahottam and member of Chittagong Hill Tracts Regional Council Gautam Kumar Chakma, among others, were present at the meeting at the special invitation of Abul Hasnat Abdullah.

In the meeting, a 7-member committee has been reconstituted to find out the problems and solutions of the departments and offices that were handed over to three hill district councils.

The committee also decided to hold a meeting with the cabinet secretary to discuss the existing problems regarding implementation of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Peace Accord.

The committee also decided to apprise the home ministry so that no innocent people are harassed during the ongoing operation against Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF) terrorists in hill tract region.

Land secretary Md. Khalilur Rahman informed the meeting that framing of rules and regulations for CHT land dispute resolution commission will be completed soon.

Abul Hasanat Abdullah congratulated State Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts Kujendra Lal Tripura and newly appointed chairman of taskforce and peace accord implementation committee member Sudatta Chakma.
