First day of voting in SCBA election continues

DHAKA, March 6, 2024 (BSS) - First day voting of the two-day Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) polls  (2024-2025) began at 10am today in a festive mood.

The voting will continue till 5pm with an hour lunch and Zohr prayers break.

The results will be announced after the voting ends tomorrow.

The Election Sub-Committee has set up 50 booths in the Supreme Court building auditorium for 7,883 voters.

Besides, the candidates from Sommilito Ainjibi Oikya Parishad (white panel)-backed by Bangabandhu Awami Ainjibi Parishad, contestants from Pro-BNP backed Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikya Parishad (blue panel) and independent candidates are contesting in the polls.

The candidates of the Awami League-backed white panel are -- Abu Sayeed Sagar for president, Shah Manjurul Haque for secretary, Ramzan Ali Shikder and Dewan Mohammad Abu Obaid Hossain Setu for two posts of vice-presidents, Mohammad Nurul Huda Ansari for treasurer, Humayun Kabir and Humayun Kabir Pallab for two posts of assistant secretary.

Soumitra Sardar, M. Khalekuzzaman Bhuiyan, Rashedul Haque Khokon, Mahmuda Afroz, Belal Hossain Shahin, Khaled Mosharraf Ripon and Raihan Roni are vying for the posts of seven members.

The candidates nominated from the blue panel are -- AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon for president, M Ruhul Quddus Kajal for secretary, M Humayun Kabir Manju and Sarkar Tahmina Begum Sandhya for two vice-president posts, M Rezaul Karim for treasurer, Mahfuzur Rahman Milan and Md Abdul Karim for two posts of assistant secretary.

Fatima Akhtar, Syed Fazle Elahi Avi, Md Shafiqul Islam Shafiq, Md Russell Ahmed, Md Ashikuzzaman Nazrul, Mohiuddin Hanif and Md Ibrahim Khalil are contesting as members.

Yunus Ali Akand and MK Rahman are also vying for the post of president, Nahid Sultana Juthi and Farhad Uddin Ahmed Bhuiyan for the post of secretary and Saiful Islam for the post of treasurer are also contesting in the polls outside the white and blue panel.

The voting will conclude at 5pm tomorrow.
