SANGSAD BHABAN, Feb 12, 2024 (BSS) - State Minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Zunaid Ahmed Palak today said there are about 19 crore mobile SIM subscribers in the country, while 13.14 crore subscribers use internet in their mobile phones.

"Of them, around 20 lakh youths have been able to manage employment opportunities by using internet. About 6.9 lakh youths work in ICT sector and earn US$ 1.9 billion per year," he told the House while responding to a supplementary question from independent lawmaker Amatul Kibria Keya.

Palak said at the sincere efforts of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her ICT adviser Sajeeb Wazad, 17 mobile company plants were set up in the country and about 95 percent mobile phone sets being used in the country are being manufactured in the country.

He said 9,598 links, which were used to spread propaganda and rumours, were removed from Youtube and other social media before and after the last 12th general elections.
