Police working as servant of people: IGP

DHAKA, Dec 9, 2023 (BSS) - Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury

Abdullah Al Mamun today said police are working to maintain law and order
situation with their relentless efforts as they are servants of the people.

"The first and main work of Bangladesh police are to serve the people . . .
we (police) are working to establish ourselves as the servant of the people,"
he told an annual meeting of Bangladesh Retired Police Officers' Welfare
Association (BRPOWA) at the auditorium of Bangladesh Police at Rajarbag in
the city.

Acting President of Retired Police Officers' Welfare Association Deputy
Inspector General (DIG) of Police(retired) Md Waliar Rahman and other retired
senior police officials, among others, were present at the meeting, an
official release said.
 
Secretary General of the association Police Super (retired) Mia Lutfar Rahman
Chowdhury placed the annual report at the meeting.

Al Mamun said police built the first armed resistance against Pakistani
occupation forces during the Liberation War in 1971.

"Police have faced many challenges in the past in maintaining law and order.
Bangladesh Police is firmly committed to face any challenges in future," he
added.
 
Referring to the valuable contribution of the retired police officers in
developing Bangladesh Police as a professional force, the IGP said,
"Bangladesh Police has been able to earn their trust and love by working for
the welfare of the country and people along the path shown by you."

There are many retired police officers who contributed significantly to the
overall development of Bangladesh Police, Al Mamun said adding, "We remember
your contribution with gratitude".

The IGP said the new generation of police officers will strive to achieve
success in their respective fields by taking advice and guidance from you.
