Vehicular movement in city becomes almost normal amid BNP-Jamaat blockade

DHAKA, Nov 12, 2023 (BSS) - Vehicular movement in the city was almost normal amid the two-day blockade imposed by BNP-Jamaat and its like-minded political parties that started from in the early hours of today.
 
A large number of vehicles, including buses, CNG-run auto-rickshaws, private cars, motorcycles, minibuses, and rickshaws, were seen plying across the city as usual, facilitating the commuters with normal traffic situation.

All public transport were seen carrying passengers at full capacity, like other working days, as law enforcement agencies remained alert to ensure security for people.

Apart from passenger-carrying vehicles, goods-laden trucks and cargos were seen operating in different parts of the capital.

Besides, a large number of inter-district buses were seen leaving different terminals, including Sayedabad, Mohakhali and Gabtoli, for different parts of the country.

"The blockade could not affect the transport system as a large number of inter-district buses departed city terminals today," General Secretary of Bangladesh Sarak Paribahan Sramik Federation Osman Ali told BSS this evening.

The presence of passengers was huge from morning to 12 noon while inter district busses left Sayedabad bus terminal within 30 minute frequency, he said, adding that but after 12 noon to 4pm, the busses witnessed a lower number passengers.

"However, now many inter-district night coaches are leaving Sayedabad, Mohakhali and Gabtoli bus terminal carrying passengers at full capacity," Ali said, adding that more than 50 busses left Mohakhali bus terminal during the day time.

BMF Paribahan, Tungipara Express, Tisha, Rajib, Nirala, Ena, Hanif, Soukhin and Dola Paribahan were among the buses, which departed the city bus terminals during the day time, he said.

Noting that the number of passengers was higher today compared to the previous blockade days, Ali hoped that number inter-district bus trips would be higher tomorrow.
