Govt ensuing climate-resilient houses for marginalized people

RAJSHAHI, Oct 9, 2023 (BSS)-The present government under the dynamic and prudent leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been ensuring climate-resilient housing for the homeless and landless people across the country.

 
With the noble gesture of the Premier, hundreds and thousands of landless and homeless families have already been obtained permanent addresses by getting brick-built houses throughout the country, which has been appreciated widely.

Development activists and volunteers made the observation while addressing a post-rally discussion to mark the World Habitat Day-2023 at Lalon Shah Open stage in the city this afternoon.

This year's theme of the day is: Resilient urban economies Cities as drivers of growth and recovery."
 
The Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) and Brac Urban Development Programme (UDP) jointly organised the meeting discussing and devising ways and means on how to ensure houses to more landless and homeless people.

RCC Chief Community Development Officer Azizur Rahman, its Environment Development Officer Syed Mahmudul Islam, Brac Divisional Manager Moutarouf Hossain, UDP Regional Coordinator Farzana Parveen and Regional Manager Goutam Kumar Biswas addressed the meeting.

The meeting was told that 48,000 people from over 12,000 households living in different slum areas in the city have got the scope of improving their lives and livelihood conditions amid intervention of the UDP taken for reducing their multi-dimensional poverty and deprivation.
 
Forty of the beneficiary households have got climate-resilient houses with the initiative.
BRAC has been implementing the UDP in association with RCC to engage multi-sector partners to create employment opportunities for the urban poor people and improve their overall living and livelihood conditions and realize basic rights.
