Covid-19 positivity rate continues declining in Rangpur division

 RANGPUR, Sept 2, 2021 (BSS) – The Covid-19 positivity rate continued declining during the last three weeks amid decreasing number of casualties and increasing recovery rate gradually improving the pandemic situation in Rangpur division.

Health officials said 164 new Covid-19 cases were reported after testing 1,362 samples of all eight districts in Rangpur division at the daily positivity rate of 12.04 percent on Wednesday.

Earlier, the daily positivity rates were 12.08 percent on Tuesday, 16.05 percent on Monday, 11.66 percent on Sunday, 12.60 percent on Saturday, 18.44 percent on Friday and 18.58 percent on Thursday last in the division.

“With the diagnosis of 164 new patients on Wednesday, the number of Covid-19 cases reached 53,380 in the division,” Focal Person of the Covid-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

The district-wise break-up of total 53,380 patients now stands at 12,151 in Rangpur, 3,503 in Panchagarh, 4,324 in Nilphamari, 2,674 in Lalmonirhat, 4,528 in Kurigram, 7,224 in Thakurgaon, 14,297 in Dinajpur and 4,679 in Gaibandha.

Meanwhile, three more casualties were reported from Nilphamari, Thakurgaon and Gaibandha districts during the last 24 hours ending at 8 am today raising the death toll to 1,198 in the division.

The district-wise break-up of the 1,198 fatalities now stands at 285 in Rangpur, 75 in Panchagarh, 86 in Nilphamari, 63 in Lalmonirhat, 66 in Kurigram, 242 in Thakurgaon, 319 in Dinajpur and 62 in Gaibandha.

“The average casualty rate currently stands at 2.24 percent in the division,” Dr Siddiqui added.

Divisional Director (Health) Dr Md Motaharul Islam said a total of 2,58,118 collected samples were tested till Wednesday, and of them, 53,380 were found Covid-19 positive with an average positivity rate of 20.68 percent in the division
         
In the meantime, the total number of healed Covid-19 patients reached 48,277 with recovery of 324 more infected patients on Wednesday in the division where the average recovery rate currently stands at 90.44 percent.
   
The 48,277 recovered patients include 9,819 of Rangpur, 3,187 of Panchagarh, 4,085 of Nilphamari, 2,436 of Lalmonirhat, 4,253 of Kurigram, 6,341 of Thakurgaon, 13,746 of Dinajpur and 4,410 of Gaibandha districts in the division.

Among the 53,380 patients, 169 are undergoing treatments at isolation units, including 20 critical patients at ICU beds and 10 at High Dependency Unit beds, after recovery of 48,277 patients and 1,199 deaths while 3,736 are remaining in home isolation.

“Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine rose to 20,02,108, and among them, 7,62,497 got the second dose of the jab till Wednesday in the division,” Dr Islam added.  

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu told BSS that the Covid-129 situation continued improving during the last three weeks in Rangpur division.

“Common people should properly abide by the health directives, hygiene rules, wear masks and maintain physical distance to contain further spread of the Covid-19 virus in the division,” he added.
