JS adopts obituary reference

SANGSAD BHABAN, Sept 1, 2021 (BSS) – The 11th Jatiya Sangsad  (JS) on the first day of its 14th session today unanimously adopted obituary references on a number of distinguished personalities including sitting ruling party lawmakers.

Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury moved the obituary references separately with brief resumes on those who died after the prorogation of the thirteenth session of the parliament.

The Speaker while moving the references said the House expresses its deep shock at the deaths of a number of former and sitting lawmakers, including Professor Ali Ashraf, MP, of Cumilla-7.

The former lawmakers were Afazuddin Ahmed, Tofazzal Hossen Sarker, Jamal Uddin Ahmad, Khurram Khan Chowdhury, M Reza Khan, Jahanara Begum and Anwar Hossen.

The House also condoled the death of noted folk singer and Ekushey Padak awardee Fakir Alamgir, lyricist Fazley Khoda, Justice Amir Hossain of the High Court Division, former Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister SA Samad, British Journalist Saimon Dring, Germany’s Footballer Guard Muller, Shamsunnahar Begum, mother of Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed, Anwara Khanam, mother of Mamata Hena Lovely MP,  Monwara Begum, mother of Nur Uddin Chowdhury Nayan, Former Information Commissioner Abu Taher, noted businessman Musa Mia, Biman Bangladesh Airlines pilot Captain Nawshad Ataul Quaiyum, former secretary of the parliament secretariat Abul Hashem and cleaner of the Parliament secretariat Sankar.
 
Besides, the parliament also expressed condolence over the deaths of doctors, nurses, members of law enforcing agencies, political leaders, media workers, businessmen, eminent personalities and employees of different public and private organizations due to Covid-19.

In addition to this, the Speaker expressed deep shock at the deaths in a tragic fire incident at Hashem food factory at Rupganj in Narayanganj, fatalities due to accidents at different places at home and abroad, including lightening in Chapainawabganj and earthquake in Haiti.

Earlier, a conventional discussion was also held in the parliament on the life and works of distinguished lawmaker Professor Ali Ashraf.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Tajul Islam, Law, Justice and Parliament Affairs Minister Anisul Huq, Begum Matia Chowdhury , Agriculture Minister Dr M Abdur Razzaque, Deputy Leader of the Opposition Golam Mohammad Quader, Opposition Chief Whip Mashiur Rahman Ranga, M Mujibul Haque, Jatiya Party Lawmakers Kazi Feroz Rashid, Anisul Islam Mahmud , Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, Colonel (retd) Faruque Khan, Sultan Muhammad Monsur Ahmed, Syed Nazibul Bashar Maijbhandari and Abdul Mannan also took part in the discussion.

They conveyed deep sympathy to the members of the bereaved family and prayed for the lasting peace of his departed soul.

The lawmakers also observed a one-minute silence as a mark of respect to the departed souls.

Later, a munajat was offered by lawmaker Hafez Ruhul Ameen Madani of Mymensingh-7 seeking eternal peace of the departed souls.

As a mark of respect to sitting member Professor Ali Ashraf ,  after adoption of the obituary reference and munajat, the speaker adjourned the sitting of the House at 6:30pm to resume it again on Thursday at 11 am.
