
RAJSHAHI, Sept 1, 2021 (BSS) - Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) observed "University Day" marking its 18th founding anniversary today in limited scale amid Covid-19 pandemic.
The day's programme began with hoisting of the national flag and the university flag besides releasing festoons, balloons and pigeons in the morning.
Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the university Professor Rafiqul Islam Sheikh opened the daylong programmes by releasing pigeons.
Registrar Prof Selim Hossain, Students Welfare Director Prof Rabiul Awal, IQAC Director Prof Abdul Goffar Khan, Teachers Association President Faruque Hossain and General Secretary Prof Jaglul SaadatIslam Sarker were present on the occasion.
To mark the day, various other programmes were arranged by the RUET authorities like tree plantation, releasing of fish fry in its ponds and idea contests by the students in virtual platforms and illuminating the campus.
VC Prof Rafiqul Islam said a total of 1,230 new students are being enrolled in 18 Departments in the technological university every year at present and around 3,500 students are availing the education opportunity in total.
"We have adopted a Taka 600-crore mega project titled “Further Development of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (Revised)” for elevating the academic activities through more need-based infrastructure development," he added.
Eleven new 10-storey buildings are being constructed on the campus aimed at further developing the campus area to provide improved facilities for the teachers, researchers, students and others concerned.
The present government has approved the project for construction of necessary physical infrastructures and equipment installation for quality improvement of education and research in RUET.
Prof Islam said main thrust of the project is to enhance and broaden the facilities for higher research and training for the development of skilled manpower in order to meet up the gradually mounting demands of technical experts in the country.
