Agitation for punishment of doctors involved in torture of journalists in Barishal

BARISHAL, Sept 9, 2023 (BSS) - A protest rally was held today at Sadar Road in the city demanding the expulsion of two doctors involved in the attack on seven journalists who were collecting news of ragging at Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital on August 27.


The protest rally was organized by Barishal Union of Journalists affiliated with BFUJ-Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists.


On August 27, two doctors attacked seven journalists at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College while on duty.


BFUJ- Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists President Omar Faruque addressed the rally as the chief guest.


President of Barishal Union of Journalists Monirul Alam Swapan presided over the protest programme.


BFUJ- Secretary General Dip Azad, Treasurer Khairuzzaman Kamal, Vice-President Afroza Akhter Pew, Joint Secretary General Hedayet Hossain Molla, Executive Member Noore Jannat Akhtar Sima, President of Kushtia Journalist Union Rashedul Islam Biplab, Barisal Metropolitan Press Club President Kazi Abul Kalam Azad, Charukala organizer Advocate Subhas Das Nitai, Barisal Reporters Unity President Nazrul Biswas, one of the victims of the attack and senior journalist Feroz Mostafa and BSS Correspondent Shubobrat Dutta, among others, spoke.
    

Chief guest Omar Faruque said some miscreants in the name physician attacked journalists to cover up the incident of student ragging.


"Time is being killed in the name of investigation after the attack. We will immediately send the list of those involved (in the attack) to the Minister of Health and Divisional Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner and Police Commissioner," he said.
 

"We demand immediate expulsion of the doctors involved from the college," he said.
