SANGSAD BHABAN, Sept 7, 2023 (BSS) - The country has exported drugs over Taka 2244 crore in the current fiscal year as more than 300 types of drugs are being exported from the country.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque today said this while responding to a star-marked question which was tabled and brought by treasury bench lawmaker Anwar Hossain Khan of Lakhipur-1 at the Jatiya Sangsad here with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.
"The country has exported drugs worth Taka 2244 crore 45lakh 58 thousand till August in 2023-2024 fiscal year", said the minister, adding "All sorts of locally manufactured drugs are being exported to 157 countries across the world including Europe and USA."
Maleque said, "Bangladesh is developing its drug industry day by day. Bangladesh produces 98percent of its total drugs locally."
Expressing concern over the rising number of non-communicable diseases like heart, liver, kidney and stroke patients in the country, the health minister said the prevalence rate of blood pressure is 24.6% and the prevalence rate of diabetes stands at 8.7%, adding that the number of non-communicable disease infected persons is rising in the country.
The Health Service Department has taken various initiatives as per the non-communicable disease control programme designed by related departments.
