BNP doesn't respect constitution as it demands withdrawal of Yunus's cases: JASOD

DHAKA, Aug 30, 2023 (BSS) - Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JASOD) in a statement today said demanding withdrawal of all ongoing cases against Dr Muhammad Yunus, BNP again proved that the party has no respect for the country's constitution, laws and courts.

"BNP earlier had demanded an end to the trial of war criminals and publicly defended convicted war criminals like Ghulam Azam, Saedyee, Quader Mollah, Nizami and Mujahid," said the statement signed by JASOD President Hasanul Haque Inu and General Secretary Shirin Akhter.

It is normal for BNP, which was formed following an abnormal process and imposed by security intelligence, to defend convicted war criminals, murderers, offenders and corrupt people, they said.

Military ruler Ziaur Rahman, a violator of the constitution and service rules of the armed forces, grabbed the state power illegally and killed hundreds of military officials and soldiers, including colonel Taher, without holding trials or following farcical trials to consolidate his power, JASOD leaders noted.

They said BNP has been turned into a party of criminals by defending criminals continuously.

Noting that no citizen of any civilized country in the world is above the law and justice, the JASOD leaders said when BNP is demanding withdrawal of all cases against Dr Yunus, the entire world is witnessing that former US President Donald Trump is appearing in court as an inmate.

Pointing that Dr Yunus is exercising his fundamental rights to defend himself as per the constitution and law, the JASOD leaders said he (Dr Yunus) has hired a lawyer and he is moving across the world freely getting bail from the court.

If cases filed by the affected victims against Dr Yunus are withdrawn, they said, it would be a denial and violation of the basic human rights of the affected people.

Knowing these things, BNP's demand for withdrawing cases against Dr Yunus is nothing but the manifestation of BNP's political hypocrisy, the JASOD leaders said.
