DHAKA, Aug 23, 2023 (BSS) - The draft guidelines for foreign election observers will be finalized by the first week of September this year, said an Election Commission (EC) official. 

“The EC has decided to review the foreign election observer guideline ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections,” Additional Secretary of the EC Ashok Kumar Debnath told journalists after an inter-ministerial meeting at the Nirbachan Bhaban in Agargaon.

Officials of the Foreign Ministry, Home Ministry, Information and Broadcasting Ministry and National Board of Revenue attended the meeting.

Ashok Kumar said the meeting reviewed the existing guidelines to make it time-worthy. But no final decision was taken as it was the primary level meeting, he said. 

“More meetings are needed to amend the guidelines. The draft of the guidelines will be finalized by first week of September,” he added.

The meeting laid importance on making the guideline friendly for the foreign observers, the EC official said.
