Historic Nazirpur Day observed in Netrakona

NETRAKONA, July 26, 2023 (BSS) - The historic Nazirpur Day, commemorating the supreme sacrifice of seven valiant freedom fighters who embraced martyrdom in a "front battle" with Pakistani soldiers during the Liberation War in 1971, was observed in Nazirpur area under Kalmakanda upazila of the district today.

Quoting the history of liberation war, leaders of district Muktijoddha Sangsad told BSS that on July 26 in 1971, a "face to face war" between the then Pakistani occupation armed forces and freedom fighters erupted in the Nazirpur area where the Pakistani forces were defeated.

Seven valiant freedom fighters laid down their lives fighting face to face with the armed forces to free the Nazirpur area from the army occupation while the freedom fighters gunned down several dozens of Pakistani soldiers and caught some others and many Razakers red-handed.

The martyred seven freedom fighters were Dr Abdul Aziz, Mohammad Fazlul Haque, Mohammad Year Mahmud, Bhabotush Chnadra Das, Mohammad Nuruzzaman, Dizendra Chandra Biswas and Mohammad Jamaluddin.

Netrakona district administration, district Muktijoddha Sangsad and Kalmakanda Upazila Muktizoddha Sangsad have chalked out an elaborate program to celebrate the day.

The program was formally started in the morning with placing of floral wreaths at the Nazirpur war memorial monument in the Nazirpur area by State minister for social welfare and valiant freedom fighter Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru, MP.

Then, Manu Mojumder, MP, Habiba Rahman Khan Shefali, MP, deputy commissioner Shahed Parvez, chairman of Netrakona Zila Parishad Asit Kumar Sarker Sazal, president of Netrakona district Awami League (AL) Advocate Amirul Islam, general secretary of the district AL Advocate Shamsur Rahman Liton and leaders of  district and Kalmakanda upazila units of Muktijoddha Sangsad placed floral wreaths there.

As part of the program, floral wreaths were also placed at the burial grounds of the seven martyred freedom fighters in Lengura area nearby the Nazirpur area.

A discussion meeting on "The supreme sacrifice of seven valiant freedom fighters" was held on the Lengura high school premises at noon.

State minister for social welfare Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru addressed the meeting as the chief guest with deputy commissioner Netrakona Shahed Parvez in the chair.

 Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru paid glowing tributes to the memories of the seven martyred freedom fighters and prayed for peace of the departed souls of the freedom fighters.

The meeting was addressed, among others, by Manu Mojumder, MP, Habiba Rahman Khan Shefali, MP, chairman of Netrakona Zila parisad Asit Kumar Sarker Sazal, president of Netrakona district Awami League (AL) Advocate Amirul Islam and general secretary of the district AL Advocate Shamsur Rahman Liton.

As part of the day's program, a Milad Mahfil and Quran Khawni were held at Lengura bazer Jam-e-mosque. A special prayer was held there seeking blessings of almighty Allah for peace of the departed souls of the martyred freedom fighters.

Following the day's program, special prayers were also offered at all the local mosques, temples, churches and other places of worships seeking divine blessings for peace of the departed souls of the martyred freedom fighters.

A large number of freedom fighters from Netrakona district and other parts of the Mymensingh division, local elite, political leaders, public representatives and government officials joined the programs.
