We will win in war against case backlog: Chief Justice

DHAKA, July 13, 2023 (BSS)-Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique today said the people of the country have got their independence in exchange of blood in 1971 and all know this history.

“If we can free our motherland by fighting a battle in 1971, why we would not be able to win in the battle against case backlog? We will surely win this battle and we want to win this battle through hard work,” he said.

The Chief Justice said this while addressing a function after laying foundation stone of Naykunjo (resting place for the justice seekers) on Dhaka District Judge Court premises here.

“We have to remove the case backlog at any cost, or else the justice seekers would be deprived of justice. I have ordered the judges to dispose of cases mostly from those, which are being filed now. Suppose, 120 cases are being filed and total 125 cases are being disposed, then the existing case backlog would go down in five to six years,” Justice Hasan Foez Siddique added.

The Chief Justice also said the Prime Minister has allocated Taka 35 crore to ease the sufferings of the justice seekers, adding, “We are building such Naykunjo at all the courts across the country, so that the justice seekers can get rest there.”

Earlier, Dhaka Senior District and Sessions Judge AHM Habibur Rahman Bhuiyan, Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Asaduzzaman, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, Chief Judicial Magistrate Syed Mashfikul Islam and other senior judicial officers received and welcomed the chief justice on his arrival.
