Ex Gulshan Thana OC, wife jailed in ACC case

DHAKA, July 12, 2023 (BSS) –A Dhaka court today sentenced former officer-in-charge of Gulshan police station, Firoz Kabir and his wife to six and four years of imprisonment respectively, in a graft case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Also, a fine of taka 1,74,34,638 was imposed on him, and 87,17,194 taka was seized in favor of the government.

Judge Sheikh Hafizur Rahman of Dhaka Special Judge's Court-9 handed down the verdict while the duo was present before the court this morning.

Kabir and his wife Sabrina Ahmed were out in bail. However, the court after declaring the verdict ordered to send them to jail.

According to the case documents, Kabir, also a former Inspector of Barishal District, deposited around 3.10 crore taka in five of his, and one of his wife’s bank account from January 1, 2012 - May 31, 2016.

Although most account openings showed his source of income as ‘employment’, the heap of money was inconsistent with his salary and allowances.

As both the accused failed to provide any satisfactory explanation or evidence when asked about the actual source of the money, ACC Assistant Director Syed Ataul Kabir filed the case on October 3, 2017 with Gulshan Thana.

Charge sheets were pressed against them on March 10, 2019.
