This time BNP to take part in polls with preparation, Hasan hopes

CHATTOGRAM, June 28, 2023 (BSS) - Information and Broadcasting Minister and Awami League Joint General Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud today said BNP will have to take part in the next general elections whatever they say to this end.

"I hope that the party (BNP) would take part in the polls with preparation, not like the 2018's elections," he told reporters after the Development Coordination Meeting with representatives of different organizations at Circuit House in the port city.

About BNP's one-point movement after Eid, the minister said the party has started the one-point movement since 2013. The countrymen had witnessed their (BNP) violations in 2013, 2014 and 2015 in the name of movement, he added.

"The government had faced the situation. Later, the elections were held in 2018 and the party (BNP) took part in the polls after muddling water. We have an idea about their (BNP) present strength," said Hasan.

He said the base of the Awami League (AL) government is rooted deeply. BNP would fall down itself if they try to push the government, he noted.

Chattogram City Corporation Mayor Freedom Fighter Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, AL city unit general secretary and former mayor AJM Nasir Uddin and Zila Parishad chairman ATM Pearul Islam, among others, were present.

The information minister greeted the countrymen marking the holy Eid-ul-Azha.

He said the Eid holiday makers are going to their homes as the government has ensured hassle free and safe journeys for the home goers. Every person has expressed their satisfaction and even the government has extended a one-day holiday.

The minister extended thanks to all including the road, transport and bridges minister, railways minister and the shipping minister.

Replying to another query over the recent raids against illegal IP TVs, Hasan said the Chattogram district administration has started the drives soon while the drive will begin in other districts also.

"Anyone can run the YouTube channel. But, it is not acceptable to demand toll or air news in exchange of money. No one could do anything through violating the broadcasting policies, online mass media and cable network operating," he added.

In the meeting, the minister said there are about one crore dwellers in the port city. Discussions were held with the city corporation, Chattogram Development Authority, Zila Parishad, Railway and the port authority on the progress of metro rail feasibility, water logging project and other issues, he added.
