DHAKA, June 22, 2023 (BSS) - A court here today convicted and sentenced a man to imprisonment till his natural death and fined him Taka 50,000 in a case lodged over killing his neighbour's two-year-old daughter by throwing her from a three-storied building.

The convict Jannatul Wais alias Nahid was present before the court during the judgment and was sent to jail with conviction warrant.

Judge Sheikh Samidul Islam of Dhaka 3rd Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court pronounced the judgment this noon.

According to the case documents, victim Ayesha's family used to live in a slum in Din Nath Sen Road in the capital's Gendaria. On January 5, 2019, Ayesha's mother went to next-door house for cooking, leaving Ayesha in their house. When Ayesha's mother returned home, Ayesha was nowhere to be found.

While searching for the two-year-old child, locals found her bruised and bloodied body in a neighbouring alley. As they rushed her to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, the attending doctors declared Ayesha dead.

Ayesha's father Md Edris filed the case with Gendaria Police Station on January 7, accusing neighbour Nahid for raping and subsequently murdering the child. Police arrested Nahid and on October 11, 2019, filed charge-sheet against him. The court on January 27, 2021, framed charges against him and today pronounced judgment after examining 18 out of total 23 prosecution witnesses.
