Contribution of Dr Tuhin to improving environment lauded

RANGPUR, June 21, 2023 (BSS) - Contribution of admired environmentalist and river conservationist Professor Dr. Tuhin Wadud to improving environment, saving and protecting rivers was highly lauded at a reception ceremony held last night.
 
The event was arranged by the Reception Organising Committee at Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) campus to accord reception to Dr. Tuhin for winning the National Environment Award 2022, the highest environment award of the country.
 
Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies of BRUR Professor Dr. Md. Matiur Rahman presided over the function participated by teachers and students, activists of Riverine People, professionals and civil society members.
 
Dr. Tuhin Wadud, a Professor of the Department of Bengali, Dean of Faculty of Arts of BRUR and Director of Riverine People, has turned BRUR campus into greenery through planting some 37,000 saplings of over 400 common, rare and extinct species.
 
He has been working voluntarily to improve the environment through massive tree plantation, conserving and saving rivers, water bodies, extinct birds, animals and other living beings for many years.
 
On June 5 last, Dr Tuhin received the National Environment Award 2022 at individual level in the 'Education and Outreach' category from Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud at a function organized at Bangabandhu International Convention Center in Dhaka marking the World Environment Day 2023.
 
Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Teesta University Md. Ashraful Al Amin, President of Begum Rokeya University Teachers' Association Md. Shariful Islam, its General Secretary Md. Asaduzzaman Mandal Asad, President of the 'Neel Dal' of teachers of BRUR Professor Dr. Nitai Kumar Ghosh, its General Secretary Syed Anwarul Islam, Associate Professors of the Department of Accounting and Information Systems Umar Farooq and Shahinur Rahman, Associate Professor of the Department of Marketing Sheikh Majedul Haque and Dr. Tuhin Wadud's wife and Assistant Professor of the Department of Community Medicine at Rangpur Medical College Dr. Munira Begum and Engineer Fazlul Haque, addressed the function.
 
Different organizations and departments of the university and Rangpur region gave floral tributes and memorials to Dr Tuhin Wadud in the ceremony that was followed by a colorful cultural program.
