'Bangladesh achieves worthy success in eliminating malnutrition'

 
RANGPUR, June 8, 2023 (BSS) - Bangladesh has achieved worthy success in eliminating malnutrition of babies, children, adolescents, pregnant women, mothers and common people on its way to attain the sustainable development goals (SDGs).
 
Officials and experts made the observation in a post-rally discussion arranged at the inaugural ceremony of the National Nutrition Week-2023 at Pirgachha Upazila Health Complex auditorium in the district on Wednesday afternoon.
 
The Pirgachha Upazila Health Complex organised the discussion after bringing out a colorful rally with participation of upazila level government and NGO officials, health workers, civil society members, students, teachers, adolescents and youths.
 
The Institute of Public Health Nutrition (IPHN) of the Directorate of Health Services under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Joint Action for Nutrition Outcome (JANO) Project are extending assistance in observing the week with various programs.
 
The week is being observed with the objectives of creating public awareness about the importance of nutrition for building a healthier nation to enhance productivity for accelerating economic growth to further speed up national progress.
 
Pirgachha upazila parishad Chairman Abu Naser Shah Md. Mahbubar Rahman attended the post-rally discussion as the chief guest with Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Bisweswar Chandra Barman.
 
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Nazmul Haque Suman was present as a special guest.
 
Pirgachha Upazila Vice-chairman Tanzina Afroz, Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Bisweswar Chandra Barman, Upazila Agriculture Officer Md. Habibur Rahman and Upazila Livestock Officer Dr. Md. Abdus Salam also spoke.
 
Dr. Barman said the government is implementing campaigns and programs to eliminate malnutrition and narrated the successes already achieved towards the direction on the way to achieve the SDGs by 2030 next.
 
"Distribution of essential drugs and vitamins like deworming tablets, iron, folic acid and calcium tablets to pregnant women and Calcium and vitamin D to aged people and Vitamin A campaigns have admirably enriched the nutrition sector," he said.
 
He discussed the necessity of breastfeeding, selecting and consuming nutritious foodstuffs to ensure nutrition of the pregnant women, mothers and babies for building a healthy nation.
 
The chief guest stressed on better coordination among government departments and NGOs for successful implementation of the comprehensive national nutrition service programme to eliminate malnutrition of the people of all ages.
