DHAKA, May 16, 2023 (BSS) - Deputy Leader of the House and Awami League Presidium Member Begum Matia Chowdhury today said democracy had restored in the country as AL President and incumbent Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina returned home on May 17.

"On that day, rain and storm couldn't stop Sheikh Hasina. She restored democracy in the country. As she returned, we got back our democracy. People got back their rights," she said.

Matia Chowdhury was addressing a discussion marking the 43rd Homecoming Day of AL President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU)'s Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Convention Hall.

Bangladesh Awami Jubo League organised the discussion.

The AL presidium member said on the day when Bangabandhu's daughter returned, it was raining cats and dogs.

"The nature also busted out crying on that day. Thousands of people thronged at the airport and chanted slogan 'Jhor Brishti Adhar Rate, Sheikh Hasina Amra Achhi Tomar Sathe'," she said.

BSMMU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Sharfuddin Ahmed, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Director General Liaquat Ali Lucky and Jubo League General Secretary Mainul Hossain Khan Nikhil addressed the discussion, among others.

Jubo League Presidium Member Mamunur Rashid chaired it.
