Rain likely due to cyclone Mocha impact

DHAKA, May 14, 2023 (BSS) - Bangladesh Meteorology Department (BMD) today predicted rain or thundershowers in different areas in the country due to the influence of the very severe Cyclonic Storm Mocha in the next 24 hours commencing 9 am today.

"Light to moderate rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind is likely to occur at most places over Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and at many places over Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions with moderately heavy to very heavy falls at places over Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions," said a Met office bulletin issued this morning.

"The very severe Cyclonic Storm Mocha is likely to move North-Northeasterly direction further, complete crossing Cox's Bazar-North Myanmar coast near Sittwe (Myanmar) by afternoon today," it added.

Mild to moderate heat wave is sweeping over Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions and the districts of Tangail, Netrokona, Chuadanga and Kushtia and it may abate.

Day temperature may fall by (2-5)oC and night temperature may fall by (1-3)oC over the country.

Country's maximum temperature on Saturday was recorded 38.2 degrees Celsius at Chuadanga and Dimla, while today's minimum temperature 21.1 degrees Celsius was recorded at Srimangal and Tetulia.

The highest rainfall was recorded 22mm at Teknaf in the last 24 hours till 6am today.

The sun sets at 6:33pm today and rises at 5:16am tomorrow in the capital.
