
RANGPUR, May 9, 2023 (BSSS) - Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin
Chaudhury today urged young generations to follow the life and philosophy of
noted nuclear scientist Dr. M A Wazed Miah for building a prosperous nation.
"Dr. Wazed has made an important contribution to the development of
Bangladesh as a scientist," she said as the chief guest while virtually
addressing a discussion held at Pirganj upazila parishad auditorium in the
district.
Pirganj upazila administration organised the event in observance of the 14th
death anniversary of international reputed nuclear scientist and Prime
Minister Sheikh Hasina's husband Dr. M A Wazed Miah (Sudha Miah).
Special munajats were offered in a dua mehfil held at Pirganj upazila
parishad auditorium seeking divine blessings for the departed soul of Dr.
Wazed on the occasion.
The speaker said Dr. Wazed has been appreciated at national and international
arenas due to his extraordinary merit.
"Dr. Wazed was an unassuming and humble man with a great personality to
follow," Dr Shirin mentioned.
Pirganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Biroda Rani Roy presided over the
function.
Deputy Commissioner of Rangpur Dr. Chitralekha Nazneen, Superintendent of
Police Md. Ferdous Ali Chowdhury, Pirganj Upazila Parishad Chairman Nur
Mohammad Mandal, Acting President of Pirganj Upazila Awami League Professor
Nurul Amin Raja, its General Secretary and Pirganj Municipal Mayor Tajimul
Islam Shamim, among others, attended the event from Pirganj.
Earlier, the observance began with placing wreaths at the grave of Dr. MA
Wazed Miah at his native Laldighee Fatehpur village paying rich tribute to
him in the morning.
Officials of the district and upazila administrations, Rangpur Metropolitan
Police and District Police, leaders of district and upazila units of Awami
League and its associate bodies, different social and professional
organisations and civil society placed wreaths there paying homage to the
nuclear scientist.
On behalf of Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury, Convener of
Rangpur district Awami League and Chairman of Dr Wazed Foundation Chhayadat
Hossain Bakul placed wreaths at the grave of Dr. Wazed in the morning.
Vice-chancellor (VC) of Begum Rokeya University Professor Dr Md Hasibur
Rashid, Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Nure Alam Mina, Deputy
Commissioner Dr. Chitralekha Nazneen, Superintendent of Police Md. Ferdous
Ali Chowdhury, Pirganj Upazila Parishad Chairman Nur Mohammad Mandal, Acting
President of Pirganj Upazila Awami League Professor Nurul Amin Raja, its
General Secretary and Pirganj Municipal Mayor Tajimul Islam Shamim and
leaders of dozens of other organisations placed wreaths paying tribute to Dr.
Wazed and offered munajats there.
Besides, improved diets were served to the students of Gopinathpur Hafizia
Madrasa in Pirganj upazila marking the 14th death anniversary of the nuclear
scientist.
Dr. Wazed was born on February 16, 1942 in a respectable Muslim family of
Laldighee Fatehpur village in Pirganj upazila of the district.
He died on May 9, 2009.
He was laid to eternal rest with full state honour at his family graveyard in
Laldighee Fatehpur village.
