JS body recommends adequate maternal and adolescent health care

Dhaka, June 24, 2021 (BSS) - The meeting of the sub-committee on 'Maternal Health Development, Ensuring Safe Delivery and Family Planning'  emphasized on ensuring adequate health care for adolescents and maternal health in a meeting held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban today.

The meeting also emphasized on taking special initiatives to reduce the risk of maternal mortality by preventing unwanted pregnancies and unsafe abortions, said a release here.

With the technical assistance of UNFPA, the  sub-committee on 'Maternal health development, ensuring safe delivery and family planning' has been formed under the SPCPD project, implemented by the Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad.

The meeting was informed that as per the decision of the 3rd meeting of BAPPD, an initiative has been taken to set up a 'BAPPD Corner' in the Library of the National Assembly with all the publications published under the SPCPD project and research publications on 3 issues determined by BAPPD.

The meeting discussed the protection of adolescent and maternal health during coronavirus period and the reduction of maternal mortality risk by preventing unwanted pregnancies and unsafe abortions, in details.

The committee also discussed ensuring access to family planning services for adolescents and adolescent mothers to prevent unwanted and unsafe pregnancies.

The meeting was chaired by committee chairman ASM Firoz.

Sub-committee members AFM Ruhul Haque, Md Abdus Shahid, Md Shahiduzzaman Sarkar, Md Shamsul Haque Tuku, Md Habib Millat and Umme Fatema Nazma were present.

The meeting was also attended by senior secretary of the parliamentary secretariat, project director of the SPCPD project and other senior officials of the parliamentary secretariat.
