RANGPUR, March 23, 2023 (BSS) - Getting new houses as gifts from Prime
Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday, 5,408 more landless and homeless
families are incredibly happy as their cheerfulness knows no bounds in
Rangpur division.
The Prime Minister (PM) distributed the houses with land ownership documents
under the fourth phase of Asrayan-2 project virtually from her official
Ganabhaban residence.
On behalf of the PM, local Members of Parliament, Deputy Commissioners and
Upazila Nirbahi Officers handed over ownership of new 5,408 houses in
separate ceremonies held at the upazila headquarters to homeless families.
Talking to BSS, many homeless families expressed happiness after getting new
houses with two bedrooms, one kitchen, one sanitary latrine and veranda
facilities to celebrate the holy month of Ramadan and upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr at
their homes.
After getting a new house, sexagenarian Abul Quasem of Gangachara upazila in
Rangpur said he had to live on the lands of others for years.
"At such a time, PM Sheikh Hasina blessed me with a new house bringing
pleasure in my life again," said a happier Quasem.
Vision impaired Mithun of village Khamar Mohana in the same upazila said he
led a miserable life without a home.
"Now, I have got a place to sleep peacefully after getting a house from my
kind-hearted mother PM Sheikh Hasina. I express my sincere gratitude to her,"
said a smiling Mithun.
Widow Aklima Begum of Taraganj upazila in Rangpur said she had to live on the
lands of others for the last 20 years since her husband died leaving three
daughters.
She received a new house with land ownership documents yesterday at Kazipara
Asrayan Project in the upazila.
Now, she is living with her two daughters in the new house as her elder
daughter was married off in the past.
"I am thankful to PM Sheikh Hasina for gifting the house. I will pray to
Almighty Allah for her long life with sound health and continuous success in
bringing smiles to the poor," she said.
Widow Nur Banu Begum of Saddyapuskorini union in Rangpur Sadar upazila
expressed her deep gratitude to PM Sheikh Hasina after getting a new house
with land ownership document yesterday.
"Now, I have got a meaningful life to realise my dream of living in peace
after getting the gift house from PM Sheikh Hasina," said a happier Nur Banu
with a smiling face.
Three brothers, completely blind since their births, Shah Alam, Saidul Islam
and Mamun Mian, sons of blind man Abdul Kader Mian of village Narsingha in
Pirgachha upazila of Rangpur got new houses as gifts from PM Sheikh Hasina
yesterday.
The three poor brothers said they never even dreamed of residing in new
houses.
"My poor mother gave birth to us and another kind-hearted mother, Prime
Minister Sheikh Hasina, has given us houses. We have no more important news
than getting houses," said Shah Alam.
Bulbuli Begum of village Haripur in Chandanpat union of Rangpur Sadar upazila
said she had to live on the lands of others. She received a new house with
land ownership documents yesterday.
"I am grateful to PM Sheikh Hasina for gifting the house. I am very happy and
I will pray to Almighty Allah for her long life with sound health," she said.
Elderly person Md. Abu Sayed of Baikunthpur village in the same union
expressed deep gratitude to PM Sheikh Hasina after getting a house with land
ownership documents from her.
"My dream has now come true after getting the gift house from PM Sheikh
Hasina. The house has erased my disappointment," he said.
Talking to BSS, Deputy Commissioner of Rangpur Dr. Chitralekha Nazneen said a
total of 5,079 houses were distributed to the homeless and landless families
of all eight upazilas in Rangpur in four phases, including 758 houses on
Wednesday.
"Asrayan Project, one of the Prime Minister's 10 special initiatives, aims at
ensuring shelter for all homeless people to assist them rebuild life, improve
living standard, health care and skill development on income generating
activities," she said.
Additional Divisional Commissioner (Revenue) Md. Ibrahim Khan told BSS that
the Prime Minister handed over 5,408 new abodes, out of total 9,029 allocated
houses in the fourth phase, to selected families of Rangpur division on
Wednesday.
Besides, 345 more newly built houses under the third phase of the Asrayan-2
project were also distributed to the beneficiaries yesterday.
"So far, 46,930 newly-built houses were distributed to 46,930 homeless
families of all eight districts in Rangpur division under the first, second,
third and fourth phases of Asrayan-2 project," Khan added.
