RANGPUR, March 7, 2023 (BSS) - Vice-chancellor of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) Professor Dr. Md. Hasibur Rashid today said the historic March 7 speech of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman united the Bengali nation for independence of the country.
 
“We have to properly present the importance and significance of the historic speech of March 7, 1971 of Bangabandhu at the then Race Course Maidan to the new generations and work unitedly to build the Sonar Bangla as dreamed by him,” he said.
 
He said this while addressing a virtual discussion arranged in celebration of the historic March 7 with various programs paying rich tribute to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the university as the chief guest.
 
The celebrations began with placing of wreaths at the mural of Bangabandhu on the campus by the Vice-chancellor with the Pro Vice Chancellor, Treasurer, other teachers and officials in the morning.
 
Later, leaders of Begum Rokeya University Teachers’ and Officers Associations, students, officials of residential halls, staff-employees, various associations and social and cultural organizations placed wreaths there in celebrations of the historic March 7.
 
With Convener of the March 7 Celebration Committee Md. Shariful Islam in the chair, Pro Vice-chancellor Professor Dr. Sarifa Salowa Dina and Treasurer Professor Dr. Mojib Uddin Ahamed addressed the discussion as special guests.
 
Director (In-charge) of the Office of the Student Affairs and Member-secretary of the March 7 Celebration Committee Syed Anwarul Azim delivered a welcome speech in the discussion moderated by Assistant Professor of the Department of Economics Kazi Newaz Mostafa.
 
Professor of the Department of Bengali of BRUR Dr. Shafiur Rahman presented the keynote essay in the discussion highlighting the importance and significance of the historic March 7 speech of Bangabandhu.
 
Md Proctor of the University Md. Golam Rabbani, Registrar Engineer Mohammad Alamgir Chowdhury, Director of Planning and Development Division Md. Osman Gani Talukder, President of the Begum Rokeya University Teachers Association and convener of the historic March 7 Celebration Committee Md. Shariful Islam, Deans of all faculties, Heads of all departments, leaders of Teachers Association and Officers Association were present.
 
Dean of the Faculty of Arts of BRUR Professor Dr. Abu Saleh Mohammad Wadudur Rahman, General Secretary of Begum Rokeya University Teachers’ Association Md. Asaduzzaman Mandal Asad, Associate Professor of the Department of Marketing Sheikh Mazedul Haque, among others, participated in the virtual discussion.
