DHAKA, March 5, 2023 (BSS)- Information and Broadcasting Minister and Awami League (AL) Joint General Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud today said unity and solidarity at the grassroots level will enhance the strength of the party.
“You (grassroots activists of AL) are the life and vitality of the party. So, your unity and solidarity will enhance the lifeline and strength of the party,” he said, addressing a meeting with the leaders of Awami League (AL) Nilphamary district unit at AL central office in city’s Bangabandhu Avenue.
Hasan said the next election is very much crucial and the polls will decide whether the country that is moving forward today under the dynamic leadership of Sheikh Hasina will continue to advance or will walk backward like Pakistan. “So, our unity, solidarity and organizational strength are so much important. I’m urging the root level leaders to give importance to these issues,” he added.
In fact, he said, the grassroots level is the lifeline of Awami League. The next elections will be held within less than one year and there is no power to defeat the party (AL) if all are united at the grassroots level, said Hasan.
It must be thought that Awami League was not united where the party will lost (in polls). They have worked against themselves, he added.
The minister said huge development has taken place in all sectors under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the last 14 years. And the country is marching ahead amid global crisis, he added.
Recently, he said, as the committee has not been fully formed even in a one year, a new section has been added to the constitution of Awami League in the last conference that a full committee must be formed within 45 days after the formation of the committee, otherwise it will be cancelled. So, everyone should keep it in mind, he added.
In many cases, the conference is held, but there is no committee, there is no president or general secretary, he said, adding these should be avoided.
As per the constitution, he said, there is an obligation to call the meeting every two months. It is needed to call a meeting with the presidents and general secretaries of the union and brotherly organizations under thana committee. Then a unity is created in the party, said Hasan.
AL Presidium Member Shahjahan Khan, Asaduzzaman Noor, MP, AL Organising Secretary Sujit Roy Nandi, central leaders Shahabuddin Farazi and Aftab Uddin Sarker, MP, Rabeya Alim, MP, AL Nilphamari district unit president Dewan Kamal Ahmed and general secretary Advocate Mamtazul Haque, among others, addressed the meeting.
