AL takes programmes on National Mourning Day

 
DHAKA, Aug 14, 2021 (BSS) - Awami League (AL) has drawn up elaborate programmes to observe the National Mourning Day and the 46th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman with due respect tomorrow.  
 
Apart from AL, different political, social and cultural organizations have also taken programmes to observe the day with maintaining health guidelines in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
 
Marking the day, national and party flags will be kept at half mast and black flags will be hoisted at all offices of the AL across the country including Bangabandhu Bhaban and party’s central office.
 
AL leaders and workers will pay glowing tributes to Bangabandhu by placing wreaths at his portrait in front of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi Road No. 32 here at 7am.
 
Homage will also be paid to other August 15 martyrs by laying wreaths at their graves at Banani Graveyard at 7.45am on that day. Offering of fateha, munajat and doa will also be arranged by AL there.
 
Leaders and workers of Dhaka city units of AL as well as the party’s associate bodies will join the programmes.
 
An AL delegation will pay tributes to the Father of the Nation by placing wreaths at his mausoleum at Tungipara in Gopalganj at 10am. Offering of fateha, milad and doa mahfil will also be arranged there. Leaders of Gopalganj district and Tungipara upazila units will also join the programmes.
 
The AL delegation members are Presidium Member Lieutenant Colonel (Retd) Muhammad Faruk Khan, MP, Central Working Committee Member Abul Hasnat Abdullah, MP, Presidium Member Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Joint General Secretaries Mahbubul-Alam Hanif and AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Organizing Secretaries Abu Sayeed Al Mahmud Swapan, MP, SM Kamal Hossain, Mirza Azam, MP and Advocate Afjal Hossain, Deputy Office Secretary Sayem Khan, Central Working Committee Members Advocate Md Amirul Alam Milon, MP, Advocate Riazul Kabir Kawser, Anisur Rahman, Sahabuddin Faraji, Iqbal Hossain Apu, MP, Azizus Samad Azad Don and Sayed Abdul Awal Shamim.

Special doa and milad mahfil will be arranged at all mosques across the country including Baitul Mukarram National Mosque after Johr prayers marking the National Mourning Day.
 
As part of arranging special prayers at temples, pagodas and churches across the country, members of Christian community will arrange lighting of candles and prayers centrally at Mirpur Baptist Church (3/7-A Senpara, Parbata, Mirpur-10) at one minute past zero hours and Tejgaon Holy Rosary Church at 9am.
 
Buddhist community members will arrange special prayers at International Buddhist Monastery at 10am while Hindu community members will hold special prayers at Dhakeshwari National Temple at 11.30am.
 
Foods will be distributed among insolvent, orphans and distressed people in the noon.

Bangladesh Mohila Awami League will hold milad and doa mahfil after Asr prayers.

On August 16, a discussion will be arranged on the occasion of the National Mourning Day at AL’s Bangabandhu Avenue Central Office at 3.30pm.

Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina will chair and address the discussion through video-conferencing.
 
AL General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader called upon the leaders and workers of the party and its associate bodies, cultural, social and political organizations to observe the day with due respect following health guidelines.
 
Party’s all units across the country have been requested to observe the day by arranging programmes in line with the central programme.
 
The 15 August is our National Mourning Day. On this day in 1975, the Greatest Bangalee of all time, Father of the Nation, President Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman along with most of his family members was brutally assassinated.

Eighteen members of the Father of the Nation's family including Bangamata Fazilatunnesa Mujib, three sons--valiant Freedom Fighter Captain Sheikh Kamal, valiant Freedom Fighter Lieutenant Sheikh Jamal and 10-year old Sheikh Russel, two daughters-in law Sultana Kamal and Rosy Jamal, brother Sheikh Abu Naser, youth leader valiant Freedom Fighter Sheikh Fazlul Haq Moni and his pregnant wife Arzu Moni, peasant leader valiant Freedom Fighter Abdur Rab Serniabat, daughter Baby Serniabat, son Arif Serniabat, nephew journalist Shaheed Serniabat, grandson Sukanta Babu, and Abdul Nayeem Khan Rintu, among others, were killed by the heinous killers on that fateful night.

President's Military Secretary Brigadier General Jamil, on duty ASI of Special Branch of Police Siddiqur Rahman and army soldier Syed Mahbubul Haq were also murdered.

Several members of a family died in the capital's Mohammadpur area by artillery shells fired by the killers on the day.
