DHAKA, March 3, 2023 (BSS)-Bangladesh's unbeaten run in Home ODI series came to an end finally after England thrashed them by 132 runs to wrap up the three-match series with a game to spare at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium today.

England incidentally was the last visitor to beat Bangladesh at home ODI series back in 2016. Having wrapped up the series comfortably, Jos Buttler who led the team to a series victory over Bangladesh seven years ago as stand in captain, won his first series as full time captain after taking the charge in last year. 

Opener Jason Roy played the key role with 132 off 124, having struck 18 fours and one six but Buttler also had an influential role in clinching the series. He hammered a 64 ball-76 with five fours and two sixes and put on a 109-run partnership with Roy to lay a solid platform.

Thanks to their partnership and cameo from Moeen Ali and Sam Curran helped England compile 326-7. Bangladesh which won seven successive series since 2016, was bowled out for 194 in 44.4 overs, demonstrating an insipid batting performance in the sporting wicket. 

England which won the first match by three wickets, were put into bat first in a surface that was not typical Mirpur wicket.

The ball came to bat nicely, playing to their strength. When a series defeat after seven years at home is on the card, Bangladesh management took the bold decision to provide this wicket, mainly due to getting them used to such sort of wicket, eyeing the upcoming World Cup in India. 

Fast bowler Taskin Ahmed was the top wicket-taker for Bangladesh with 3-66 and gave the side breakthrough, removing Phil Salt.

The spinners then got into act with off spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz who claimed 2-73, got the first scalp, trapping first match centurion Dawid Malan leg-before for 11.

James Vince however continued his horror form as left-arm spinner Taijul Islam had him stumped by Mushfiqur Rahim for 5.

Roy got an ably support from the skipper Buttler as the duo 109-run for the fourth wicket stand to set the tune. 

Shakib Al Hasan (1-64) broke the partnership as Roy looked all set to go all out attack. But still he smote 18 boundaries and one six for his 132-run knock.

Taskin then came back to his second spell to take the wicket of Will Jacks (1) before Miraz got the better of Buttler who also prepared to launch attack. 

Moeen Ali and Sam Curran then gave the lusty blow to take the side a safe zone from where England could expect to wrap up the series. Moeen made 42 off 35 while Curran smashed 33 not out of just 19. 

Curran then made immediate impact with bowling. He swung the new ball impeccably to remove opener Liton Das and Najmul Hossain Shanto, both for duck, in consecutive deliveries in the first over before dismissing Mushfiqur Rahim (4) as Bangladesh were left to 9-3.

Shakib Al Hasan top-scored with 58 and skipper Tamim Iqbal made 35. Mahmudullah added 32. 

Tamim and Shakib shared 79-run for the fourth wicket but Bangladesh never put England in trouble. 

Off spinner Moeen broke the partnership, getting rid of Tamim for 32 as he tried to accelerate the innings.

Leg-spinner Adil Rashid who claimed 4-45 had Shakib caught by Curran to virtually throw Bangladesh out of the game. 

Curran also ended with 4-29 after fittingly wrapping Bangladesh innings.

The third and last match of the series is in Chattogram on Monday.
