BFUJ leaders term Sheikh Hasina's government as journalist-friendly

 

FENI, Feb 28, 2023 (BSS) - The leaders of BFUJ-Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists today termed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's government as journalist-friendly.

Apart from taking multifaceted measures for the wellbeing of journalists, the incumbent government stood by the journalists during the Corona pandemic, they said. 

The BFUJ leaders came up with the remarks during a meeting organised on the occasion of the first founding anniversary of Feni Journalists Union held at Bestin Hotel in Feni district town this afternoon. 

BFUJ president Omar Faruque inaugurated the function with Feni Journalists Union president Jatan Majumdar in the chair. 
Omar Faruque said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given incentives and medical assistance for the welfare of journalists. 

"The price of essential goods has increased abruptly," Omar Faruque said urging the government to announce the 10th wage board as soon as possible.

Former president of BFUJ and chief editor of TV Today Monjurul Ahsan Bulbul addressed the function as the chief guest while Subhash Chandra Badal, the Managing Director of Bangladesh Journalists Welfare Trust, was present as the special guest.

Monjurul Ahsan Bulbul said, "If you want to do journalism in Bangladesh, you have to accept Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Journalists should raise voice against the people, who are against Liberation War as well as Bangabandhu." 

Journalist community must be uncompromising against any types of corruptions and ill practices, he added. 

Subhash Chandra Badal said the government has provided financial assistance of Taka over 30 crore among 11,500 journalists during the Corona period.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Abu Salim Mahmud-ul Hasan, Feni Mayor Nazrul Islam Swapan Miyaji, BFUJ Vice-President Shahid Ul Alam, its Acting Secretary General Amit Roy, Joint Secretary General Mohsin Kazi, Treasurer Khairuzzaman Kamal, Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) President Sohel Haider Chowdhury, Daily Amar Kagoz editor Fazlul Haque Bhuiyan Rana, member of the Feni Journalists Union Dr Sahedul Islam Bhuiyan Kawsar, Star Line Group Vice-Chairman Zafar Uddin addressed the event. 

Feni Reporters Unity President Shukdev Nath Tapan, Feni Journalist Union General Secretary Zahirul Haque Milon, among others, spoke at the function.

Feni Journalists Union treasurer Syed Monir moderated the event. 

Journalists working in different media of the district, among others, were present.

Later, the guests handed over the grant cheques of Bangladesh Journalist Welfare Trust to seventeen journalists.
