1.29-lakh babies to get Vitamin A Plus capsules in Rangpur city

RANGPUR, Feb 16, 2023 (BSS) - Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC) will feed
1,29,000 under-five age group babies of the city with Vitamin A Plus capsules
on February 20 next in the National Vitamin A Plus Campaign (first round)-
2023.

Chief Executive Officer of RpCC Md Ruhul Amin Miah disclosed the information
at a press conference held at City Bhaban on Wednesday afternoon before the
National Vitamin A Plus Campaign -2023 on February 20 in the city.

The campaign will be conducted under the auspices of the Public Health and
Nutrition Institute and National Nutrition Services under the Ministry of
Health and Family Planning with UNICEF assistance.
 
Chief Revenue Officer of RpCC Jaishree Rani Roy, Chief Health Officer of RpCC
Dr. Kamruzzaman Ibne Taz, Administrative Officer Nayeem Ul Haque, Sanitary
Inspector Abdul Kaiyum and other officials attended the event.

Ruhul Amin Miah narrated the importance of continuation of Vitamin A
supplementation for the under-five babies to prevent mal-nutritional
blindness, especially night blindness, bitot's spots and corneal lesions.

"Immunization of the under-five babies with Vitamin A Plus capsules is
crucial for strengthening their immune system and disease resistance capacity
for healthier growth," he said.
 
He said 594 health workers and volunteers under supervision of 44 supervisors
will provide Vitamin A Plus capsules at 297 outreach centers in all 33 wards
of the city on Monday next from 8 am to 4 pm.

As many as 20,000 babies (6-11 months) and 1,09,000 babies (12-59 months)
will be administered with one dose of one lakh units of Vitamin A Plus Blue
capsule and one dose of two lakh units of Vitamin A Red capsule each
respectively.

He especially called upon parents to bring their babies to the outreach
centres with a full stomach to feed them Vitamin A capsules as immunization
with an empty stomach might cause nausea.
