Japan Bank keen to sign MoU with Bangladesh to boost energy cooperation

DHAKA, Feb 8, 2023 (BSS) - Governor of Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) Nobomitsu Hayashi today emphasised on establishing better relations with Bangladesh, saying there is a need to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in energy sector and protect mutual interests.

"This MoU will make an important contribution to enhance cooperation in overall energy management development," he said, while paying a call on with State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid at his ministry office.

During the meeting they discussed about financing in the power and energy sector of Bangladesh.

Welcoming the Governor of Japan Bank for International Cooperation Nobomitsu Hayashi, Nasrul Hamid said huge funding is needed for continuous development of the power and energy sector. 

"Not only the G-to-G but also financial institutions were encouraged for coming forward in the sector. Japanese companies are being interested to work in Bangladesh," he said. 

The state minister said the JBIC can finance ongoing and upcoming projects. Meanwhile, he also discussed about keeping the grace period while disbursing loans.

During the call on Energy Division secretary Md Khairuzzaman Majumder and chief representative of JBIC Toshihiko Kurihara, based in New Delhi, were present.
